cannot connect to internet after apt-get upgrade

Today I ran a apt-get update/upgrade/dist-upgrade on my Debian Sarge computer. After rebooting, I cannot connect to the internet. I believe the problem came from the new kernel image (which asked me to reboot), but I am not sure. While booting, I noticed an error appearing about eth0.

I have no idea how to start fixing this. Can someone help me? I would be more than happy to give you the outputs of commands or other things that may help diagnose my problem a little better..

if my experience is anything to go by, you need to add the module. do cat /proc/pci (or lspci if your on 2.6 kernel) to figure out what network card you have.

Then search google for that network card's name to try and find out what module it uses.

Then type modprobe example
(example is to be replaced with the module ovbiously)

now type /etc/init.d/networking restart.

Type ifconfig now and see if there is an eth0 entry.

If there is an eth0 entry, add the module you modprobed, onto the end of the /etc/modules file.

THANKS!!

It works just fine now.

Is there a way to stop future kernel updates from doing this? (it also set grub back to the default config, and I had to change that back too)
