Ah, the exe files - as a rule those simply don't work on Linux, they are a windows format. Linux does have wine, however, which allows for emulating a windows environment so you can still use exe files. Not everything will install, however, and some applications that do simply won't run very well. You should always search for a Linux version of whatever program you need but sometimes you'll find that it doesn't exist as some companies feel they should cater to the MS/Apple world exclusively.
Btw, you should consider mentioning your distribution (version of Linux) in your profile. It makes it a lot easier to offer assistance as things may vary considerably from one distribution to another.
