can't dual boot Windows Kubuntu

Hi, all -- I have Windows XP on my C drive, and I have installed Kubuntu on a removable hard drive (unwilling to risk C). The installation went smoothly; no problem.

But now what? It says here that on rebooting, I can hit [space] or any other key, and that will give me a menu with the option of booting into Kubuntu. It doesn't. No matter what I do when I boot or reboot, I go into Windows. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Doug (be advised: a tenderfoot non-geek).

You need to do some research on how to set up the NTLDR to offer you a menu of choices: XP and Kubuntu.

That's ONE way to do it.

During the Linux install, what option did you select for installing the boot loader?

Can you boot from the Kubuntu CD and enter ctrl-alt-F1 (or F2) to get to a command line? If so, we can get the boot loader installed that way.
At the command prompt, type "fdisk -l" and post the result here.
