Canīt boot my RH 8.0??
Hi everybody..
My problem is that my newly installed Red Hat 8.0 stops/hangs during booting. If i have understood the boot process right it seems that it hangs after initdr is loaded into RAM and the kernel is decompressed. Then it starts to check and configure my hardware.
It recognizez my processor and some other things like the cachememory and i get a lot of ok's and passed and eveything seems to be working fine until these lines. I think that it is somewhere on these lines that the problem lies:
PCI: BIOS revision 2.10 entryat 0xfaa95, (order: 5,131072b)
PCI: Using configuration type 1
PCI: Probing PCI hardware
Unknown bridge resource o: assuming transparent
PCI: Using IRQ router PIIX [8086/2410] at 00:1f.0
isapnp: Scanning for PnP cards...
isapnp: No Plug & Play device found
speakup: initialized device: /dev/synth, node (MAJOR 10, MINOR 25)
Linux NET4.0 for Linux 2.4
Based upon Swansea University Computer Society NET3.039
Initializing RT netlink socket
amp: BIOS version 1.2 Flags 0x0b (Driver version 1.16)
After this line the cursor just stops and blincks and all that i can do is to reboot the system. Earlier i had the Red Hat 7.1 with the same hardware setup as now except that i have replaced my dvd player with a Plextor cd writer and i am now using my onboard sound card
instead of the Aureal vortex card.
This is my hardware setup:
Motherboard: Intel VC820 with onboard Soundblaster 128, 128 MB RDRAM
Processor: P3 800Mhz
Harddisk: IBM 20 GB 5400rpm (Master on primary IDE channel)
Cd-rom: Plexwriter 4012A (Master on secondary IDE channel)
Graphics: Geforce 256 32MB DDR
Network: Realtek RTL8139 (A)-based Fast PCI Ethernet adapter
Iīm using a dualboot system with W2k and here is my HDD setup:
C: W2k (Primary)
Then i have used all the remainig free space to create a big extended partiotion wich i then cretaed a logical partition to W2k in. Then i used rest of the space in the extended partiotion for Linux. My /boot partition is under the 1024'th cylinder of the hardisk. Here is the setup for Linux:
/boot 500 MB
<swap> 256 MB
/ 1500 MB
/usr 512 MB
/home 2000 MB
/var 500 MB
/tmp 500 MB
I have tried to boot while my onboard soundcard was disabled in the BIOS and i have tried taking out my networkcard to but the system still hangs on the same place..
Hope somebody can help me..
Thanks in advance
The Newbie..
