Can't mount secondary hardrive for write access

Hi there,

I am trying to mount a secondary hardrive for write access on my Slackware 9.1 linux box. The partition is formatted using FAT32 and I try mounting it using the following command:

mount -t vfat -w /dev/hdb1 /mnt/hd

I have tried manually changing the permissions of the directory after it is mounted using chmod but it has no effect.
