can't connect to ftp server

I installed Slack 8.1. I have the proftpd server running.

When I connect to it from another machine, I get:

421 Service not available, remote server has closed connection

I know I'm missing something. By the way, this is proftpd. Thanks for the help..

do u have router?

in that case u have to forward ftp port to your computer..

I get the same response, and both machines I try to connect are behind the same router.

if the server is running then maybe it's a firewall issue.
