Can't access my 3DA card as user

Hurray I got my voodoo 2 card working using the command:

3Ddiag --mesaglide

However I do still have a problem that I would be grateful for tips on. I can only get my 3DA card to work as root!!!

I have tried to change the XF86Config - (which should allow other users to use DRI):

Section "DRI"
Mode 0666
EndSection

No change, and I of course have tried chmod. No luck so far, this is a silly problem but I am not making any progress and the XF86Config log file do not give any hints.

Any suggestion on what to do?????
