burning DVD videos suitable for Playstation playback

Hi,

I've recorded many short videos on devices like my pda, a usb pencam, ... etc.
and want to be able to watch them on a DVD player...
I only have access to a Playstation II for this purpose (Model 7 AU PAL .. from memory)

I have attempted to burn DVD+RW, DVD-RW and DVD+R media using various methods without success.
Once burnt, the DVD's have been tested in a computer DVD-ROM to make sure they work.

I have a dual-format, dual-layer DVD burner ... with bitsetting capability.

Suspecting that my conversion of the videos/chapters/menus/etc was suspect I've tried copying small DVD movies (<4.3GB) that work on the PS2, also without success.

Can anyone suggest what am I doing wrong?

I'd prefer not to buy DVD-R's.

You didn't really specify what software you've used for authoring or copying DVDs, so I don't know whether you're speaking of DVD-Video-compliant discs, or something potentially non-compliant.

But allow me to toot my own horn, and recommend tovid. Nobody has reported Playstation compatibility on tovid-created discs, so you might be the first! I'm betting that you will have at least some satisfactory results, though.

Yes I'm trying to create DVD-Video discs that the playstation will recognise.
I've used a combination of various tools for experimentation, and I'm reasonably sure that at least one of the approaches should work.
The reason I eventually tried copying a DVD that did work was to avoid the possibility that I'd made a mistake with the video format/layout.
So in theory that should have removed the possibility of non-compliant video, as the files I wrote were compliant to start with.

Ideally I'd like to have been able to test my results in a DVD-video player, but I don't have one :(.

I've tried copies to DVD+R (which I suspect the playstation can't read anyway ... even with the correct booktype),
and to DVD-RW (which I thought should have worked).

I've been thinking that perhaps I should buy some DVD-R media and try those.

Thanks for the tovid link, I'll see what I can produce with it.

older Playstation 2s can't play DVD-RW or DVD+R

The new slimlines can, but older ones an't at all. Some of the older one's can play DVD-R.
