How do I change the spellchecker in firefox (and all of my Ubuntu OS actually) from British spelling to American spelling? I've done what I can with the add-ons, but didn't get the results I need. It's checking according to British spelling, and I need it to check according to American spelling.
Thanks.
Hi,
I can see that you are running Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn). It should be under 'System settings' > 'Language option' (or 'Language support'), then select your language of choice. I believe you can set the system-wide language from there (sorry, I didn't use Feisty Fawn).
Cheers.
PS: Are you using a desktop or laptop or netbook? If desktop, why not upgrade to 11.10. It's very nice, especially with Gnome 3 shell installed. Give it a try.

System > Administration > Language Support didn't work. It all seems to be set to English (United States), but it still tells me 'flavor' 'favor' and 'color' are misspelled.
I'm running 10.04. Sorry, I haven't updated my profile. I'll do that now.
What program are you using? Abiword, Open Office, LibreOffice, or what? If the misspelling is in an office suite, then you need to download the American English language pack (EN_US) of the suite you are using.
Even if you change the system language to EN_US, as you now have, EN_US words, like 'flavor' will still be underlined in office text editor as wrong if the suite's native language is British English (EN_GB). I don't think Linux has a central spell-check dictionary for all installed softwares.
I don't know what office suite you use, but try this:
Go to 'Edit' or 'Tools' menu >> 'Options' or 'Preferences', then go to 'Language settings' and change the program language from EN_GB to EN_US. Else download the EN_US version.
