boots, but... no GUI/X

hi... this one is kinda odd...

keep in mind this just happened around noon (2004.8.17)

i was setting up my scanner, and it didnt do anything, it came out with a black image(is not the question). after i set it up i looked in the graphic set-up didnt touch anything -well i did but i cancelled- then rebooted and want into M$windows, to scan..., when i was done there i rebooted, into linux

everything booted up correctly, or as usual, i have some odd modprode(it doesnt do anything) and when it is done instead of going to the GUI login screen, it goes to a text and it saids login, so i do it as root, for no reason, except some options(you know what i am talking about) so i do the

X command, and than i goto a blue screen with the mouse couser as an X.
i am entering the wrong command, or do i have to wait more than five mintues for it to load.

Try startx instead of X

I don't recommend running X as root, either ... does the same thing happen when you login as a user? Try checking your runlevel to see what it's set to

lol i guess people dont, i was refurring to the abillities of the root user,
plus when i used the ¨runx¨ command i got into KDE as root, and i was ealily able to go to the root of the problem (no pun intended)

some how the box i check to go into the GUI at start up was unchecked... i dont think testing the graphic card to see what it is, and hitting cancel should of done this...
that was all i did
