BOOTMGR is missing
 

Hi guys,

I have already searched for the forum for the solution but I couldn't find any results.

Basically, I am trying to install Linux over the top of Windows.

I stick the DVD in and start the computer up, it reads the DVD but says "BOOTMGR is missing".

Here is the question, how can I install the BOOTMGR? I have no access to windows at all as it is corrupt for the 3rd time this month and I am just getting the blue screen. I want to go back to Linux.

I understand that I need to install GRUB,I think. But how can I do this? Is there anything like a boot disk that I can still in which will boot the DVD, like you can get for Windows at bootdisk.com?

I also don't know how to get to any command prompt to actually instruct the computer to install from FTP or anywhere else......

first, what Linux? What is the DVD you are trying to boot?
What exactly happens before it gives you the error message?

A quikc Google search shows "BOOTMGR" as a replacement for the normal windows MBR--and also as a component of Vista. Hard to see how that relates to something that is supposed to be a bootable CD.....

My thoughts exactly.

Perhaps it has something to do with GRUB?

I'm trying to install Suse 10.0.

The computer just boots like normal, then says something like "reading from CD failed" and then gives the error message.

If it cannot boot from the CD (DVD), then it will try to boot from the hard drive. Try it without the CD (DVD).
Also, try another bootable CD (DVD)
