Red hat linux,
after some changes in /etc/fstab file for quota linux is nt booting in gui, it gives error that it cant run x graphical mode because of some internal error. Is there any way of editing fstab without gui when even it is nt going in shell?
Fix?

1.)which distribution you using
2.)whatever at the boot loader append init 3
then you should boot into runlevel 3
then check the you'll be able to edit xorg.conf or the log files
3.) if step two didn't work and you still get no login prompt the
you should boot with the 1st install CD or DVD and select rescue mode
the you can check all the nessacary files in the chroot /mnt/sysimage enviroment.

during boot up at os selection point select linux and press "a"
write at the end "single"
you will be booted to single user mode.
write "init 3" an you will be in runlevel 3.

boot in runlevel 3
Login as root.

give "vi /etc/fstab"
make necessary changes
and save it.
if your linux in not supporting "NTFS" you wont be able to mount NTFS(NT OS supports vFat and NTFS) partition than.
For that you have to recompile your linux if source is given

difference in runlevel command

after a long time when init was not working i also tried linux keyword for runlevel entrance but it also did not work even when it were writen in book, i used load 1 and then it entered runlevel 1 at the end of kernel filesystem argument. File system as was read only so i tried this command to first unmount and then mount in rw, umount /proc but it said that /proc is busy. then i tried remount command but it said command is not found, i think the right command is
mount -n iproc
mount -o rw, remount/
but i did not get time to check it so i'l check it next time
