booting miniroot (on hard drive)

Hi,

I am trying to boot a liveCD from hard disc.....(poor mans install)

my lilo.conf looks like this

Code:

image=/mnt/hdb1/isolinux/linux26
        label=prodevCD
        initrd=/mnt/hdb1/isolinux/miniroot.gz
        read-only
        root=/dev/hdb1

If I boot liveCD (CD) then I get loading linux26 loading miniroot.gz

When I boot from disc kernel only loads then I get kernel panic.... (devfs error prior to panic)

I read an article showing this method with knoppix ...

Wondering why miniroot is not loading ...????

thanks in advance

initrd=/mnt/... What?!? You did not even boot a kernel yet, so how can you alerady have your CD mounted on /mnt ?!?

I am puzzeled. Is that really what you want to do?

Asks

Sorry the

/mnt/hdb1 is the drive the liveCD is on ....

It was the only way I could get other distros to boot from second hard drive......

Code:

image=/isolinux/linux26
        label=prodevCD
        initrd=/isolinux/miniroot.gz
        read-only
        root=/dev/hdb1

maybe that looks better :D

hmm, this looks more reasonable. Do not forget to run lilo on it and reboot, I am curious if this works...

Forgot: where do you put your swapfs? Where does /var go? AFAIK, Knoppix creates a cramfs for that...

I tried using Knoppix (poor mans install) ...

If you add

append = ("fromhd=/dev/hdb1") then it works ... I can boot knoppix from hard drive (yay!)

but thats not my problem the miniroot I wish to use does not contain linuxrc ... only isolinux.cfg ...

So I guess I have more reading up to do....
