Linux needs some kind of boot loader to load it, the kernel can not load itself as of yet.
If your winXP boot loader works, i think it is possible to make it load linux as well, google for it.
To edit the bootloader (at least in win2k, never used XP) you need to open a dos prompt,
cd /
edit boot.ini
But i dont know how to specify the linux disk and load options, as i said google for it, otherwise pop in a Linux rescue CD (usually the installation CD) mount your / partition and run /mnt/linuxroothere/sbin/lilo

had the same prob!

I had the same problem when i thought i was real smart and did a disk to disk copy of a debian install, on a diferent size HDD!

It gave me the same repetitive lines u mentioned above, the way i got it to work again was using the three debian rescue/install floppies where i went and "re-intialized" the linux swap and "/" partitions then made the system bootable and i was laughing!

however i do feel i got lucky!

not sure if this helps!
