Question Booting from floppies etc.

Ok... This may seem like a really awkward quesiton to you, but:

Is it possible to create a hard disk image inside an already partitioned (external) HDD, and use LiLo on a floppy disk, etc, to boot from that image?

My main problem is that I require this external HDD to be partitioned in a specific manner, otherwise, it will not work correctly.

Thx

Not directly. But you can boot from a rescue-disk type image on the floppy, mount the external hard drive somewhere and then run a command like:
Code:
mount /path/to/image / -o loop,ro
to mount the disk image in /etc/rc.d/rc.boot. You'll need loopback device support in the kernel to make this work.

Hope that helps,
