Hi, i've been doing some research into making a linux distro on some form of portable media (floppy, CD, USB etc.) I've read a lot of guides on bootable distros. I'm just interested in building a linux distro that is fit to my needs, but i believe LFS is such a long complicated way. Also i'd like to be able to take it on the move with me. I was thinking maybe building a boot CD that can mount the floppy disk drive or a usb drive. That way i could store the system files and stuff one one media (mini cd or business card cd) and then maybe user files (documents etc) on another form of storage.
I think i would probably start off by building it like a boot floppy (extremely small) and then building on it and putting it on a CD.
But i definatly believe it would be easier to build a small system and expand it, rather than build an LFS system and shred it. i mean it seems pointless building the LFS system just to shred it and cut it down.
I've been using slackware 10 for a few months now, and i've messed around with that (rebuilt and customised the kernel) and other little things, but i've still got a few un answered questions.
1. Most "floppy distros" come on more than one floppy (a boot floppy and a root or utility floppy) Would it be possible, using a bootable floppy image to CD image software, put it onto one CD. And if so, how would i go about doing it (have separate images on the disk? or one big image?)
2. is busy box a replacement for BASH?
thanks in advance, and expect a few more questions getting fired your way
