Boot up fails on Ubuntu

Boot-up fails
When I turn on my laptop it turns on and it directly gives me the following message:

(a lot of letters an numbers)
Killed
Mount: mounting /dev on /root/dev failed: no such file or directory
Mount: mounting /dev on /root/dev failed: no such file or directory
Target filesystem doesn't have /sbin/init.
No init found. Try passing init= bootarg.

Busybox v1.13.3 (Ubuntu 1:1.13.3-1ubuntu11) built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

(initramfs)

I don't know what to do to fix this and I tried booting from live CD but it freezes on the screen. I tried re-installing it but it also freezes.
Help please. Much is appreciated.

Offhand, it sounds like there might be a problem with the HDD.

When you say the live CD freezes, where exactly does it freeze? If there's any text on the screen, posting a digital photo shot might be helpful.

It freezes on the part where it's loading screen and it's purple and has little dots that blink I hear the computer loadin I but than it stops and I can't hear it no more. I'll try to take a short video soon when I have a source to so so

Try booting to a live CD and taking a look at the HDD and running fsck from the live CD.

I would recommend Knoppix or Porteus because they are designed to be live CDs, rather than designed to allow you to sample a distro before installing it.

How do I run fsck?

jefro 01-08-2012 05:27 PM

Look, if it can't boot to the live cd that was used to install it then there is a big problem. Try to run memtest first.

Monsterwhispers 01-08-2012 06:23 PM

Memtest came out with no errors.
