Boot To Floppy, GRUB

I'm trying to make a very simple OS in C++, but with my inabillaty to LearN ASM I need to use something else. GRUB looks smart enough for this. But I really have need to actually test it not just use bochs, so I need to figure out how to boot to a floppy with grub. As well as a few others. Here is a list of things I want you to help me with and I hope GRUB can do:
Initialize the extended FAT12 filesystem
Boot a floppy
Start enough io routines to do the next few steps
Switch into 32bit protected mode
Select and start a 32bit non-GUI program called foo.exe

That's not the function of a generic boot-loader. You might be able to get initrd to do most of what you want.
There was a another here that had a (long) thread in the last year or so re the travails of writing (and loading) an O/S. Eventually got it to work. Hit the search button ...

Forgot to mention: it appears grub2 will still load from floppy according to the doco - haven't tried it, but grub (classic) certainly will.
