you can do it from grub too

is something like this (please correct if I'm wrong)

- enter the grub command line and type the following, to boot with xp:

unhide (hd0,0)
hide (hd0, 1)
rootnoverify (hd0,0)
chainloader +1
makeactive
boot

that helped me

I'm having this same problem now. I just installed Linspire (a distribution of Linux) on a second partition and am getting the same problem when starting to boot up windows.

I used PartitionMagic to create the new partition, but can't access it without Windows (which I can't get into). How would I change the partition to Visible instead of hidden without cfdisk? If I need cfdisk, what is it and how do I get to it?

If you are using Boot Magic (in Windows), you can change it in the properties settings.

Post Changing partition type using cfdisk

This thread is kinda old but I got here with the same problem so here is how to use CFDISK to UNHIDE your NTFS partition. run CFDISK from linux. If you have a linux install or liveCD you should be able to just type cfdisk from the prompt (after logging in ofcourse). Use the up and down arrow keys to select the partition to change and then left and right arrow keys to highlight "type" and press enter. You will now be shown a list of partition type numbers and then be prompted to enter the new number. The Hidden NTFS is 17, the regular is 7. So type 7 and hit enter. When you see the partition selection screen you will highlight "write" and press enter. This is NEEDED because otherwise you aren't saving the changes. After it completes exit the program and reboot the computer. Should work now. Good luck.
