Boot issues with GRUB and LILO

Problem: Both GRUB and LILO give me a "Block move error 0x02" when I select Linux from the boot menu.

I have successfully used both GRUB and LILO in the past (earlier RH and Mandrake versions). I had to install Windows (begrudgingly) on my machine to run software for work that didn't run in Wine. Well, I got a laptop for work several weeks ago and would like to put Linux back on my PC.

Originally I installed Slackware 9.1 and was using LILO, it would give me that error. So being lazy I just put the bootloader on a floppy disk and used that. A buddy of mine gave me Mandrake 10 and figured I would give it a try just to see what it's like. Same error when booting with GRUB in that.

I am not dual booting. There is only Linux running (or trying to run) on the system.

I've searched the web, and newsgroups and found nothing of any help. What I'm worried about is that it may be a hd issue. Seeing as it worked before, but not now, I don't know what else to think and I don't feel like having to boot off my floppy all the time.

Anybody else ever run into this? Or hear of this? If you need any more info, let me know and any/all help is appreciated. Thanks.

Probably a bad HD's jumper setting.
or bad bios setting.
