Hey all, I'm going away for awhile as I'm being deployed to middle east later this month. I would like some recommendations on some books to take with me; I'm not confident that I'll have reliable access to the internet.
Some topics that interest me are:
shell programming
network programming
host and network security
RHCE
x windows
In the realm of shell programming, you can download these:
Effective AWK Programming
Bash Beginners Guide
Advanced Bash Scripting Guide
Picking Up Perl
Byte of Python
Dive into Python
Use www.google.com/linux to do research on other books, mostly available on-line. You can sometimes find then available for download.
O'Reilys "Unix Powertools" ... amazing book, I pick it up
so often just to skim through the pages randomly, and learn
new tricks every time :}
Not a specific book on any programming language, but it
teaches how to work with the Unix/Linux paradigm of "many
small tools that do one job, and do that very well".
