I know that this bogoMIPS are dependent upon the machine and so on.
After reading both the main.c from init in linux kernel source (jiffy and bits) and bogoMIPS
howto-I have a strange (maybe not so strange ) experience to tell.
After I upgraded My rh8.0 installation to 2.4.20 the bogoMIPS changed from 1592 to 1602
(funny ,funny)
I don't know what happened next as one day it went down to 1599(no change in anything)
Any explanation??
What processor you using? If its got thermal protection enabled it might be running hotter due to environmental conditions one day compared to another, and is slowing itself down very slightly hence the change in BogoMIPS.
As for the change after changing distos - different kernel version? Not that I've ever known this make a difference.

Thanks for your answers.
I am myself suprised by the change in BogoMIPS.
I compiled my kernel in my own machine so any effects due to compilation on another machine is not possible
Did the conditions changed it?What are the conditions?
I don't know.
According to the howto-the value should not change in one machine --then what happened?
Well my processor is PIII 800 Mhz (coppermine) stepping 0a(that is decimal 10)
I have *not* overclocked the processor.
?!

I was talking about the room temperature changing significantly. This will only make a difference if the processor is running pretty hot anyway. Do you have any way to monitor the temperature?

Well the room temperature could not change significantly.I regularly moniter the CPU temperature through bios and it is in "acceptable" region(30-35C).
But nxny link did point out that a "small" change in BogoMIPS is acceptable -if you can take 10 as a small change!?
