you're just running "blackbox" on a console? well, that won't load blackbox from there, as it needs a running X server to connect to. you should have startblackbox which will load X and then blackbox inside it. if not, create or edit either ~/.xClients or ~/.xinitrc and change the exec kde (or similar) line to "exec blackbox" and then when you run startx blackbox should load.

1) Zellius do that: start you Kde session as usual, then in konsole type "switchdesk" this will pop up a window from where to choose the default WM... but wait you said you compiled it from source? ...uhm not sure then. Being you not confortable with config files and all, I'd suggest to delete blackbox and install the RPM's instead (you can find them at http://rpmfind.net) for easier management.

OR

2) If you want to try blackbox quickly: echo "exec /path/to/blackbox" > .xinitrc where /path/to/blackbox is the place you installed blackbox in (usually /usr/bin/blackbox should do). Then startx and you're done.

if you do want to try and start them sererately, run "X &" at a console, when the black and white screen is loaded, press ctrl+alt+1 to get back to your terminal and then run "blackbox --display :0" and that should put black box in the X server, not a nice way to do it tho.
