black/blank screen ubuntu 10.04.1
 

Hi i started using Linux 6 months ago. i downloaded ubuntu 9.10 created a USB and installed. it has worked fine and i am well pleased. i though i should update to 10.04 so downloaded it and created a USB (in fact i tried 2 USBs) and cannot boot either. i purchased a CD which exhibits the same boot problem which appears to be graphics related. i believe there is a documented problem with work arounds. i want a bootable USB/CD as a backup. my questions are.
1. is this a problem which will be resolved in the next release?? i would wait for that release.
2. if this problem will not be resolved what other distributions of Linux are similar to ubuntu for me to try?? (i have heard of Red Hat)
3. i really do not want to retreat to windows.

Try installing via the alternate install CD
