Best web browser?
 

Hi guys

I have different problems with the Internet that web browsers just dont seem to support.

For example:
1. If lets say i want a web browser to open up a file like xmms to play music i have to use Konqueror.

2. If I need to open up a picture that i think uses flash or some other plug-in that browsers dont support I gots to use opera. And i use opera for email.

3. And I serf the internet using Netscape. Because it supports fonts.

So as you can see i have like 3-4 different browsers installed to do different things. This is kinda puts a burdain on me.

Is there any way to get a normal browser that can do everything?

Mozilla will do all of those, you just need to add all plugins needed. You can set Mozilla to open a file when it is passed an xmms file. Flash and java are supported extensively in Mozilla. Fonts can be changed easily in Mozilla, only their default font's are not very good. See www.mozilla.org for documentation on changing/adding plugins.

Try searching, I believe there has been a few polls on peoples' favorite web browsers. I particularly like Mozilla Firebird

mozilla does it all. get 1.6, then install the plugins.

I think you can set opera to open xmms ... Ummm.. I'll try it and then post back :).

I'm happily content with Konqueror. It does everything.

I have it configured to open XMMS (for MPGS, WMVs, etc.)
If you correctly install and configure Flash support it will play flash movies. Although I think the newer versions of Flash don't work, (or maybe I need to update my plugin?)

Also, Konqueror does support fonts, except Helvetica. That's the only one I've seen which is very screwy for some reason. (and I have over 700 fonts installed on my machine, collected over the years before I switched from Windoze).

It really is very easy to configure all of these browsers to do all of the things that you want. Look through [for firebird / fox ] tools --- options or settings --- configure for konqueror and so on. They all do the same thing --- eventually!!

Opera will do it. In linux, though you need to get plugger. Just type "plugger" into google. I use opera and all is well.

For me, Mozilla has always done the trick. It's relatively fast, there is a good number of plugins for it, and tabbed browsing is kind of neat. Even though I have yet to try opera, so I may not really be able to say yet.

Firefox is great, with a little tweaking and some plugins it does every thing that Opera does and more, and it's free and open source. You just have to modify the action for different mime types to open different file types with different apps, and there is the mplayer plugin for playing embedded movies (which always crashed opera for me).

Does anyone know how to get around the screwy anti aliased helvetica font in web pages? I've had that in every browser and distrobution I'ved tried.

Yet Macromedia refuses to get shockwave to work on Linux. >:(
