Why not these days? I'm using Mint 8 KDE right now. If I was to play it safe, I'd choose Mint 9 KDE LTS.

I like knowing my computer will work the exactly the same tomorrow as it worked yesterday, no surprises. Therefore rolling release is not for me.

I see by the fact you're using Mint 8 that, like me, you are comfortable with a stable, well-tested, non-rolling-release distribution.
