Anything w/o gui.You probably wont be able to install a regular distro with 8 mb ram without some further investigation anyway.

Slackware or Debian! It's far easier to trim those distros down to size than it is with RedHat, SuSe, or Mandrake.

There was thread on the debian mailing list about installing debian on a box with 16 mb and didn't sound too good.Your best bet is probably to put the hdd into another box with more ram if you got one and then swap it back.

slackware doesnt work well on less than 16 mb ram.. try crux

you will not able to use gui so you can try those dist on disks there are plenty of those there must be ways to install them on hd. check www.linux.org under dist.
