best e-mail service?

I would take advantage of linux and have myself be my own e-mail service, but I haven't gotten into linux security enough to make myself confident enough to make myself a server to the outside world.

What is a good e-mail service that provides pop access and at least 2mb of room? I use yahoo right now but its highly annoying to have to use port 80 (internet browser) to view my e-mail instead of just telnetting or using a client program.

Thanks in advance

www.freeshell.org has free email, webspace, etc.

You just have to send them a dollar so you prove your not going to use their servers to send out spam, etc.

And you get 20megs of space.

Fastmail is an excellent email service. They have free and paid plans, and a great support forum. www.fastmail.fm. No affiliation, just a satisfied customer (with 3 accounts).

10MB of space and you can use their web interface or an email client. They use IMAP so you can read the email in software anywhere because it stays on the server until you delete it.

I have to strongly object to myrealbox. I thought that service sounded great (free imap!) and got an account for my girlfriend. Well, you can expect downtime. Sometimes email is lost in the ether for hours.

My solution? Run our own mailserver.
