So hehe
Before I start into my genius exploits of the evening, I'd like to say that I have a back problem and also being pretty new to linux have been awake for several days in pain.
So I was the guy who started such wonderfully long and drawn out threads about "what to do when linux says things like filesystem adfs is not supported" and "what to do when you killed your mbr reinstalling xp and then linux rescued your linux but can't boot xp?"
Back in linux again- thank GOD (($*%ING WINDOWS)) I was quickly running throuhg my setup to get it back to where it was... anways I tried to do some compiling of stuff i needed to run - namely the alsa drivers... upon this, my term stops and says:
checking for directory with kernel source... /lib/modules/2.4.20-8/build
checking for kernel version... The file /lib/modules/2.4.20-8/build/include/linux/version.h does not exist.
Please, install the package with full kernel sources for your distribution
or use --with-kernel=dir option to specify another directory with kernel
sources (default is /usr/src/linux).
So what the hell did i do wrong (because this is the first thing i've tried to compile) and how do i correct it? In a fit of mental-crapping, i also thought it might be my kernel source, so i uninstalled my kernel source only to find out, i don't know how to put it back! Red Carpet refuses to list my kernel souce!
The hint is there in the error.
"Please, install the package with full kernel sources for your distribution". It wants the source kernel. You will need to install the package so it can compile. I'm not sure in Redhat but there should be a packaging tool that will let you search. Just type in kernal and select the kernel and hit install.
Don't very exact, sorry. I use Mandrake 9.1. But you just need to install the package and you will be good to go.
MasterC You are a great! I am havinga similar problem which I posted a few days ago and I have spent all time since searching for the correct versions of ALSA for my copy of linux. I can't say thank you enough for solving my problems!!!!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! (hopefully 3 timesw is enough for now)
