Base Install

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone knew what is needed for a purely base install of Red Hat 7.2?

Basically so that I have nothing but the base linux system, and the utilities required to compile further programs as I see fit.

What I'm wanting to do is build my self a linux firewall, but I want it really cut down, as when I try to do something like that with a standard type install, the computer kinda grinds a fair bit, even when its just sitting at a prompt not doing anything.

This is aimed as a learning experience for me, so any advice would be really great, however, I'm not interested in switching to another distribution, such as the ones which are aimed at being a purely firewall type thingie..

Thanks in Advance,
Matty

If it needs X then you don't want to install it. The GUI will be what is slowing things down.

Choose Server installtion and remove all not needed services (apache, ftp, mail servers etc) and X, of cource. What you neeed is iptables. This plus basic packets wil be enough.
