Backup questions.

Let's say for instance that I want to re-install Linux or install a different version of Linux on my box but I don't want to lose all the customizations that I have made on my current install. I know I will need to backup my /home/(user) directory but how about all my KDE settings and such?

Should I use tar?

I am not a KDE expert or don't use but if I'm not mistaken, most KDE customizations reside in the user's home directory.

You can use tar to backup, I see no problems with that.
