hey

How do you complete backup of hard drive ( all files )
Server Ubuntu 6.06.2 LTS
to a single file so I can have a copy of files that were changed

hope it makes sense

Several ways.

you can use dd

dd if=/dev/sda of=/nameoffile.img <-- might need to add some other params

or using cat my favorte file system destroyer

cat /dev/sda > imagefile.img <-- I wouldent recommend this

I am sure others can be a lot more helpful then me with this one

You are looking to backup all the files on your hard drive? Checkout the rsync(1) man page. rsync will not back up to a single file, but numerous other methods exist which will do that such as dd, dump, tar, etc.

Yes all file's tar will do
