automount doesn't work anymore

Hi,
for one or two weeks usb external hard disks don't get anymore mounted in /media directory as usual .
surfing on the net, I had the impression that it is linked to autofs .
lsmod|grep autofs returns nothing .
Has anybody an idea ?
Thanks

There are a few different ways to setup auto mounting. What distribution and window manager are you using?

You said that it stopped working?
What changes have you made from the time it worked until it stopped working?
A recently installed package or upgrade could have broken the feature.

Hi,
I actually I don't exactly know when automount stopped working and unfortunately I don't know neither what is the cause for that .
Anyway, what I know ( ;-) ) is that my window manager is Gnome and
the distribution I use is Ubuntu Hardy 8.04 .
Should autofs module be listed by lsmod for automount to work ?

Maybe this thread on ubuntuforums can help
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=80070

There are a couple links there. Looks like there was a known issue at one time. There is also a solution which uses gnome volume manager. Otherwise try re-installing dbus to see if that helps
