at your login screen, there should be several menus with settings and actions

one should say configure login manger or soemthign like that
click on it
you'll notice that the words above the password box now say root instead of your usr name

go ahead and type the root password

a screen should come up with the abiliy to configure your greeter/login screen

i think the second tab had to do with automatic login?

just look around, it should be there

also sorry for the vague help, its been several months since i used gnome. I find kde does everything i want, allthough the ability to make multiple bars is nice in gnome

anyway good luck, and if i can get gnome runnin again i'll try and give some more specific help
