Audio player with terminal support?

Hi group,
I am a Dyslexic with poor eye sight and poor reading abilities. I would like to find an audio reader with a support display screen that runs on Linux. Let me explain exactly what I want.
  • Download a book on tape file.
  • Open the audio file.
  • The program will then open a display window that follows and highlights the text, word by word, being read.
  • Hot keys to do pause, start, backup, forward, etc.
The idea is to hear the file and reenforce the visual input. This will help with learning how to read.
I currently use Mplayer to read audio files. The browser has helped me with my writing with the spell check.

Thanks for your time.

I can't speak to the specific characteristics you listed, but I can suggest that you might want to take a look at Sonar Linux. It is an excellent project designed with a plethora of assistive technologies.
