what would cause the audio to quit working on 2 different MDK 9.1 boxes? I have done northing to the systems except updates. One box used ALS4000 and the other has sound blaster live with digital output both systems worked. Ive checked harddrake configurations and things appear OK. If no one here has any ideas my only choice is to start over after backing up contacts. I've reloaded these machines several times because of one thing or an other, all I want to do is get away from that other OS.
I am doing a linux in 24 hours study course using MDK 7.1 on an other box. I could go on but all I want is some hope that this is fixable for a NEWBIE.
Thank you
It could be that you have a sound daemon running and messing things up a little. I use KDE myself now (blackbox before) and from time to time I also was losing sound for no apparent reason.(totally, into games, video/audio players and etc) Disabling the annoying sound effects from KDE control panel I got everything running smoothly, including Neverwinter Night that I had no sound at all at that game. Check to see if you are running any desktop sound, disable it and see if it helps.
1.Are you referring to configuration>KDE>sound>sound system? If so I unchecked start aRTS soundserver on start up. 2. How about ALSA in the Mandrake control center>system>DrakXServices? I did the first with negitive results.
OK I've got analog, and that is better than nothing almost. I have a set of Boston Digital BA735 speakers that is why in'm keenly interested in getting the digital out working is there a setting in the sound system I missed, Ive been over it and don't see anyway to enable digital. The mixers show capability but nothing to engage. As alway feedback is appreciated.
It seems that after many distros and reboots sound configurations it was not the soft ware it was not the sound card it was the speakers. They needed to REBOOT. I know what you are thinking, but after put them away then trying once again it worked. It must have been time time unplugged discharged the speaker system board, you see they are Boston DIGITAL BA735 speakers. Thought I'd pass this on and thanks to those that replied and took the time to at least look at my post.
