Ati Radeon Driver Installation Problem with Debian
hi guys,
[
Platform : Debian Squeeze (64bits)
Card : Ati -radeon HD 6500)
]
Problem : My machine had 1st nvdia card, which i sold and buyed new Ati card (Ati radeon 6500HD). after un-installing the nvidia driver, i found that debian has already installed "open scource ati driver" packed called xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd.The problem is when after installation Proprietary driver,w/o uninstalling the open source drivers" which i did my following instruction from here http://wiki.debian.org/ATIProprietary , after restarting my PC my linux boot normally until the loging screen then it froze.Again i had to delete the xserver.conf (this file is no more given with debian squeeze version as default) to get back to normal startup (and i am scared to unintall the open source ones , as it might totally freeze my loging screen). Then i UN-installed the proprietary driver and stick with the old installed ones i.e the open source ones.My point is how to install the Proprietary ones as they are better in game performance than the "open sources ones" please help. ( please tell me the steps too )
Thank you.

Reason: solved
As you can see from all the lines that start with "(II) VESA(0)", you are not using the proprietary driver there. You are using the vesa driver. After installing the proprietary driver, did you create an xorg.conf file with 'aticonfig --initial' ?

Do i need to uninstall the default "debian open source ati driver 1st" , as i did tried to run the command , after installing proprietary driver before, above the open source ones .. they cant recognize the card.. something.And if i do uninstall them will i have to restart , then install the proprietary driver , or install them after uninstalling them ? and will it fuck up my boot?
You do not have to uninstall the open source drivers. You just need to install the proprietary ones, run 'aticonfig --initia' and (just to be safe) reboot.

well i did install them and run the command the output is "No supported adapters detected", when i restarted the machine my machine froze at boot screen i have to delete the xorg.conf file to be able to login again.
If 'aticonfig --initial' tells you that you have no supported adapters, then the driver doesn't support your GPU. What version of the driver did you install?
