Assistance to compile driver for tuner card

I have a TV tuner that is just getting started working in linux:
http://www.hauppage.com/pages/faq/su...hvr1600.html#1

This is very good news Will be nice not to have to use Windows on my media PC anymore.
Here is the link to V4L where they have another link to the firmware that I don't know what to do with :( http://www.ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Cx18

Now, I can download the bz2, read the readme, get the firmware but...where do I put the firmware, before or after compiling? Getting lost about there. I have compiled modules before and modprobed and set them up to load, things like that. But never dealt with firmware before.

Could someone explain "down" to me? I don't have linux on that machine yet. I could use either debian or PCLOS. If someone thinks it would be easier to get this going on one distro rather than the other please let me know. If deb, testing or stable or sid?

Usually they might be in /lib/firmware but you may need to find which files they actually need to replace once found.

i dont think youre supposed to do anything with the firmware. it's the data that's probably on the ROM of your card, and maybe useful to the people who will write the linux driver for it.
