Argument list too long

Hello,

I use some program that recieves a list of files as input arguments :

./program file1 file2 ... file7000

When I have 7000 arguments, the system says : too many arguments, and refuses to go on.

Can I do smth with it ? The program is not mine, I cannot recode it.

Thank you.

here are some things you can try: http://www.linuxjournal.com/article.php?sid=6060

the limit is more than 7000.

Thanks a lot. The fourth solution sounds good for me. I think this is what I need.

I always used the first one. The 2 and the 3 are also interesting.

i guess you would only need method 4 (recompiling the kernel) if you absolutely must run the command only one time with all the arguments. if you can run the command several times with parts of the arguments, the other solutions seem less drastic.
