To update your list of packages... apt-get update
To upgrade all packages with the latest version... apt-get upgrade
To install package foo... apt-get install foo
To remove package bar... apt-get remove bar
To search for package foo... apt-cache search foo
To see what apt- programs there are... apt-[tab]
To see help on them... apt-get help

There's a slackware-specific version of apt-get called slapt-get.
You can find it in http://www.linuxpackages.net/
