apt-get auto solves dependencies

Why doesn't apt-get solve dependencies automatically just stops installing the packages then displays error messages. Do I have to yum if I want this functiionality ?

It usually tries to dowload the dependencies. It must have it, however, in the database. Try apt-get update to get the current list.

apt while a wondefull tool has always been a little "sensitive"
in other words it get all buggered up and trips all over itself sometimes.
you have to learn to use the dpkg command to fix it.
and sometimes the commands to fix problems are shall we say a little less than logical
in which case you will always find where some other debian user has discovered the answer.
just google the exact error message and you will find.

it's still better than all of the more modern coppies.
which is why everybody else coppied how it works in the first place and created yummmm
and whatnot.
