APCUPS backup - Fedora Core 6
 

Hi there...

I am wondering if anyone has setup a APC UPS backup surge protector for Fedora Core? I have installed apcupsd 3.12.4-5 fc6-i386 and apcupsd-cgi 3.12.4-5 fc6-i386 web interface. Now I am wondering how I access the web interface. I am guessing it will be something at my local host but I have no idea where to start. I have found some limited information and nothing solid.

I'm running it on one of my FC6 boxes - compiled from source and followed the manual from the apcupsd website

Ok thats awesome! However that doesn't help me much.....

When I went to the website the manual wasn't popping up, like a web site glitch - someone must have coded it wrong. Can you give me anymore insight as to how you did this? Did you setup your APC UPS backup via a web interface? Or did you have to do it from the command line interface?

I did it all using the command line - wasn't even aware that there's a web interface.

Here's the manual I used; it just opened on my box, so maybe it was a temporary issue:

Ha that the one thing I love to hate about Linux. Everything takes TIME - which I don't have HAHA. Ah well I guess I can't take the easy way out on this one. Have a good one and thanks for your help!

PS - if I find an easy way or get the exact settings I will post them for other users to see! Keep in mind that most settings that are posted are the for the specific machine and OS.

HAHAHA, man I love open source developers. All I had to do was plug in the UPS backup, reboot and system FC6 detected my UPS backup device, model number and everything..... MUHAHAHAH who said you need XP plug and play? Good job open source guys/gals!

I just finished setting up a UPS on my system. I, too, was interested in the web interface (I would've settled for the ncurses one) but never got it to work. The cgi, unless I'm mistaken, needs a web server, ie. apache, running to work. I found apcupsdJcfg, a Java front-end for configuration. For status I just created a menu entry that launches an xterm with the status displayed:
xterm -e /etc/rc.d/rc.apcupsd status | less
