Do you mean access your site by an actual domain name? If so, you need to register a domain name with a domain name registrar, like www.networksolutions.com or www.register.com
Their fairly expensive, I actually use www.domain-s.com which usually run around 9 bucks, USD that is.
Good words, however, if dude really wanted to be el-cheapo, he could check out the services (Dynamic or Static DNS hosting) that dyndns.org provides.
Then dude can also have fun figuring out how to set up the L(inux)A(pache)M(ysql)P(hp) on his machine. Shed some 'light' on things.
And wait- more fun to be had, yet!
Dyndns.org will "alias" an IP address fo' free. And, as we all know- newbies and moderators alike, the best things in life are phree. They have a lot of addresses- most popular being, of course,

True, but only if he wants a domain to be part of the dyndns.org type address, etc. To me, it might be simple for some and cheap, but myself I like having my own real domain. Just looks and seems more professional, easier to remember, etc.
