Anyone played with Freevo? Not impressed so far..

installed on two different machines using packages (they say dependencies are thus taken care of) both produce the same message at start up:

Freevo Crashed!
...
check logs.

Well that's bloody helpful. Where might those logs be? And why the crash on a brand new install of Ubuntu?

Well, the solution is: check the logs :-)
I use Gentoo distro and it was working fine. Perhaps you have a hidden ".freevo" directory in your home folder (e.g. "/root/.freevo" or "/youruser/.freevo") which might contain the logs? (I'm not at home right now and cannot check...)

This might help you: http://freevo.sourceforge.net/cgi-bi...roubleShooting
My local_conf.py is stored under "/etc/freevo/".

Yep, I'm playing around with it, but can't get the watch TV to work. I don't know why I'm messing with it, I have mythtv working, but I just wanted to try something else. Its a pain to setup. Mythtv was much easier to setup. Freevo's documentation is really lacking information on settings. You would think when you run freevo setup, it would take you through a configuration like mythtv does, but apparently you have to be a linux guru to figure it out, manually screw with config files. Thats completely stupid if you ask me. I've done searches for info to setup the settings in the config files but can't find anything helpful. Its all trial and error.

If anybody can point in the right direction to a good how to for a system with a PVR 350 using ivtv and suse 10.2 that would be great. If not, I'll just wait till freevo 2.0 comes out and give it another whirl. Hopefully it will be more user friendly. It shouldn't be this much hassle to setup a program.
