anyone can tell me where i can find the doc about upgrade kernel 2.4 to 2.6


as the title said! i have searched the web ,but still can not find it !thx!

the modules_init_tool does not needed? i remenber the modules config file is different between 2.4 and 2.6, the new 2.6 kernel can do it for me? i found lots of articles a ignore this!

I've never used it.

I just
Code:
make menuconfig
make && make modules_install
But since you have never mentioned a distro...

my distribution is the same with you now,i just confused,is the kernel 2.6 do it for me?

Just follow the instructions in the link I gave you.
It is the clearest, most concise post I've seen on compiling the 2.6 series kernel.

this is the wrong message,and i build reiserfs into the kernel,but still have this error?

If you are using a distro, by far the easiest way to bring your system up to 2.6 is to install the appropriate later version of that distro. This will automate the very tricky process of making this particular upgrade.

Once you've made the jump that way, you can move forward from there in any manner you wish.

Do a search in the Slackware forum for 'cd2 2.6'. It will give you many ways to install the 'test' 2.6 kernel on cd2.
