antix linux living up to its name...(antics)

i installed 64-bit antix because I wanted a minimalist distro that i could build my box on top of (my original selection was Gentoo but after initial failure, the terminal started refusing to carry out commands and so I moved to an automatic installer due to frustration). I like it, it has a nice look (although I would have preferred only one desktop window manager were installed (i think there are four). Well, having all settings correct as it looks, I jumped right into installing my graphics driver, except niether IceWM nor Fluxbox is showing the file (that has now been downloaded about 5 times). I surfed to the appropriate folder and even made a custom folder to save it in, except it isn't there. ls -a and -f are not showing it either, nor is grep finding anything with its text string (and I might have the wrong command, I thought it might be gawk) the command I issued was simply grep filename. Anyhow I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there is something about Antix I should know, there doesn't seem to be a knowledge base of where is my file...other than to look at Antix's storage habit. Thanks. btw, not a noob to the site, just forgot my pass and closed the e-mail that the forums would send it to if I requested it, thus I have a new name.

...

its an nvidia 982B geforce 8400 gs.
I've had no issues installing the driver whatsoever on other platforms, its just that two things are necessary: x server has to be stopped and I HAVE TO know where the driver is lol...

never saw anything like that. I'll read up on the link there, thanks.

log out then do ctrl+alt+F1 login then su to root, then run smxi, when it gets to the end choose the Graphics option and the nvidia driver you want to install, It will download , install and configure xorg.conf for you then when it is done choose start desktop.

while that is excellent news because everyone loves simplicity, this still leaves me in the dark about where my downloaded files are going if they aren't going to the folders that are pointed to in the browser or selected during the download initiation stage. I stumbled on another interesting thing as well, even if I utilize sudo I cannot uninstall the other desktop versions. Should I just read up about AntiX instead of bothering the forum with this? I'm not a linux guru yet. thanks.

I would suggest looking through Howto articles - antiX http://antix.mepis.org/index.php/Howto_articles

You might also want to read :

There is also a nifty reference card that you can print out.

aptitude user's manual

MEPIS 8.5 USER'S MANUAL

The more you know the easier Linux is to run.
