Another Dual Monitor noob thread

well, i almost had it fixed.. or so i thought. then went off for a long weekend, took one look at my xorg.conf file and bawked at how lost i felt, as if i hadn't learned a thing, thrown in the deep end again... well almost, i exaggerate a little.

but i am totally lost as to what to do to get it functionally correct, so, if anyone get's a kick outta setting noobs straight...

and currently the second monitor, the CTX 17 inch, looks like it's trying to be part of the other screen but it maps the graphics around so you get a kind of lined double (triple?) image scooting about showing bits of the first monitor, but in weeeeeeeird colors.

i'd tell you my hardware details but im pretty sure you have all the relevent stuff in the xorg.conf pasted above. oh, does it say i'm using a nvidia 7800gtx graphics card up there?

also, a second question, should be easy to answer....
once i get this sorted n working as sweet as i need (a functional two screen desktop), can i just copy n paste my xorg.conf to my other installed distros?
[currently on suse, also have studio ubuntu, sabayon full, n likely to instal and uninstall many others]

I just struggled with getting my dual monitor set up working again and I found that an updated driver from Nvidia was all I needed. I have the Quadro NVS 285 though, while yours is different. It might be worth taking a look to see if you have the most recent driver.

well..... seems i got it sorted now... of a sort... the new alpha studio ubuntu based on ubuntu 7.10 hd the kit i needed available in its now functioning package management... i neednt even know what a xorg is now. might as well be clueless about my system as a windows user.
