An Antivirus for windows in linux?

My friend is having a problem with his computer. He has a virus or something he said, and he tried starting windows in safemode and running an antivirus while in safe mode, but he said it wasn't working (Dont even ask for info, this is just what he told me) So I was wondering, if I gave him a copy of Knoppix and he used the CD to boot into Knoppix is there some sort of an antivirus he can run while in Knoppix to scan for Windows viruses?

Maybe he could try running an AV program under wine, but I'm not sure that would get him anywhere.

I've heard a program called "ClamAV," but beyond it purporting to be a Linux-based AV program, I couldn't tell you anything more than that.

I think, perhaps, his best bet would be to pull the hard drive, mount it as a slave drive on a 'dopes box and scan it from there.

Best of luck!

I think your friend's best bet, if he wants to keep Windows is to use Knoppix to back up data, then reformat and reinstall Windows.

Upon consideration, I would have to agree with aysiu. Back up from Knoppix, then R&R.

Have a look at this. Haven't tried it myself, but seems reasonable.
