You can't install AMD64 stuff on a 32-bit system. You have to go AMD64 from the beginning.

well, i think i can kinda get it working..... cause i was installing xfree86 for amd64 procs and now it just says this when i run X

X: /lib64/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.3.4' not found (required by X)

and so i was thinkin that i could just get that and then i'd be up and running

and if not, does debian not have an official release for 64 bit? i cant find one and i dont like ubuntu

http://www.us.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/

The beta netinstal disk seems to be broken. You could try the weekly build netinstaller, or get the 1st 2 or 3 "complete set" disks
