I am looking to increase boot speed so I started to modify the /etc/rc.M script. I commented out crond, apm, ldconfig, and some font thing but dont really see any increase in boot speed. Is that the correct startup script to modify? also when I shutdown my system hangs for about 10 seconds on " unmounting remote filesystems " where are these remote file systems and do I need them? Thanks
The best way of changing the processes started at boot is to "chmod u-x" or "chmod u+x" the various startup scripts except: rc.0, rc.4, rc.6, rc.K, rc.M & rc.S - these are needed to boot the system. You should only modify these when absolutely nessecary to avoid confusing yourself!
Alternatively, if you change the services by using pkgtool, you will find that it is doing the same thing.
Cool, I like to manually edit the files, I feel like I am more in control.
also, Do I need MySQL, web server, APCM, Custom keymap, or custom screen font, Sounds like stuff I dont use.
Thanks.
